PrimeDoc Hospitalist Group Expands Into Specialty Hospital Care

PrimeDoc Management Services Inc., a physician-owned company that specializes in the establishment, staffing and management of turnkey hospitalist programs across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, has expanded its services into specialty hospital care with the launch of a hospitalist practice at Landmark Hospital of Athens.

Landmark Hospital is a brand new 42-bed facility that opened in July. It is a long term acute care hospital (LTACH) – a specialty hospital that focuses on patients with serious medical problems requiring intense, special treatment for an extended period, such as those requiring ventilators to help them breathe, or who need long-term wound care.

Patients with these types of chronic and medically complex conditions, who are too ill for placement in a skilled nursing home or inpatient rehab center, can receive the same type of intensive medical care in the LTACH, but in a smaller, more comfortable setting.

The partnership between PrimeDoc and Landmark means that LTACH patients have access to the services of doctors who focus exclusively on them while they are in the facility, from the time they’re admitted until the time they’re discharged.

These PrimeDoc physicians, called "hospitalists," are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to care for whatever medical needs patients have during their stay at Landmark Hospital.

Many patients in an LTACH transfer from intensive care units in traditional hospitals, such as Athens Regional Medical Center, where PrimeDoc has provided hospitalist services since 2004. Moving such patients to Landmark after their conditions have been stabilized will free up hospital beds at Athens Regional and other Northeast Georgia and Upstate South Carolina hospitals for more acutely ill patients.
