Foundation Supports FHCE Help Line For Uninsured
The Foundation for Health Coverage Education
(FHCE) has
been awarded a $178,000 grant from the Wellpoint Foundation to support
the operation of a free, round-the-clock and multilingual help line for
those uninsured in the United States.
Nearly 33 percent of the 47 million uninsured in
the
U.S. are eligible for government-sponsored health insurance, but
aren’t signed up for it.
Funds will assist in maintaining up-to-date
private/public program data, and help a new verification and monitoring
process for those who decide to enroll in a government program.
"As the ranks of the uninsured grow in this
economic
downturn, it is all the more important that information about available
government programs is easy to access for those in need," said Phil
Lebherz, founder of FHCE.
A five-question eligibility quiz is available to
applicants online, and live counselors are also available to them
through the U.S. Uninsured Help Line for guidance on all options and
any questions.
Online access to applications for every state,
nationwide, is offered on the organization’s Web site: www.coverageforall.org.
Wellpoint and FHCE hope this grant will facilitate
the
centralization of health coverage information, becoming a resource in
making healthcare accessible to all.
The U.S. Uninsured Help Line is: (800) 234-1317.
