Awards $17 Million To State Medicaid Programs For EHR Incentive Payments
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(CMS) awarded more than $17 million in federal matching funds to eight
state Medicaid programs to begin a health information technology (HIT)
incentive program.
The grant will cover planning activities to
implement an electronic health record (EHR) incentive program, such as:
conducting a comprehensive analysis to determine the current status of
HIT in the state; and gathering information on issues, like existing
barriers, provider eligibility for EHR incentive payments and creating
the State Medicaid HIT Plan, CMS said.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
provided a 90 percent federal match for states to create an EHR
incentive payment program, "to ensure their proper payments through
audits and to participate in statewide efforts to promote
interoprerability and meaningful use of EHR technology statewide and
eventually across the nation," CMS said.
States receiving the federal matching funds are:
New York – $5.91 million
Texas – $3.86 million
Georgia – $3.17 million
California – $2.48 million
Iowa – $1.16 million
Montana – $239,000
U.S. Virgin Islands – $232,000
