Manasquan, N.J. -- The ManagedCareMarketplace.com ranked first in results on a search of "vendors to managed care organizations" using most leading independent Internet search engines, a new market research study of Web utilization found.
Search studies were conducted among the following Internet search engines: MSN.com, AltaVista, NBCi, Excite, Lycos, HotBot, Dogpile, GoTo.com, and LookSmart.
The Marketplace also ranked first in searches among the top so-called meta search engines that search over multiple directories and search engines at the same time. Meta search engines ranking the managed care B2B site first included the Dogpile Metasearch, CNET Metasearch, MetaGopher, Search Runner and Searchwiz.com.
Search results placed ManagedCareMarketplace.com as the first site in the search results among seven of the leading Web services, second on another, and among the top ten on another.
The Web site is located at www.ManagedCareMarketplace.com.
First in Line
The ManagedCareMarketplace.com, based in Manasquan, N.J., serves as an industry information source for managed care executives involved in "sourcing" products and services. Companies selling into the managed care industry in such categories as computer software, equipment, claims handing, case management, disease management and application service providers, display their service offerings.
The search engines studied use "spiders" or "robots" to index or categorize the millions of pages on the Web. The survey was not done on the popular Yahoo! site because it is a directory compiled by human beings and its organization of categories does not use the kind of technology used by the search engines in the survey.
Among the top search engines surveyed, ManagedCareMarketplace.com ranked as follows:
* MSN first search result among top 10 most popular sites;
* Excite first search result among the top 10 Web site results;
* HotBot first among the top eight sites of 32,500 sites that matched the criteria;
* GoTo.com first among the top 10 results;
* LookSmart first among the top nine sites results;
* NBCi first in a search return of 98 pages;
* AltaVista first among 850,437 pages found;
* Dogpile Web Catalog fifth among 187 pages; and
* Lycos eighth.
Rankings among the meta search engines found:
* CNET first result;
* Dogpile Metasearch first;
* MetaGopher first;
* Search Runner second;
* Searchwiz.com first; and
* MegaSpider.com first.
Positioning Leads to Top Spots
The high results in the Web search rankings were attributed to the positioning of the Marketplace, according to Robert K. Jenkins, president of the Managed Care Information Center, which produces the Marketplace as part of its MCIC Web site.
The Marketplace is part of the managed care online community where executives receive news, reports, product and other health plan industry market information.
The search-result findings are of interest to sales and marketing executives at MCO vendor companies who want to determine efficient ways to reach those MCO decision-makers who are online or are migrating to Internet-enabled "sourcing" of business services.
The high ranking placement serves the needs of MCO executives by centralizing in one place a Web "catalog" of many of the leading companies offering services, software, and other "business of managed care" products, Jenkins said.
Among the 37 managed care industry-related categories the Marketplace serves are administrative outsourcing, behavioral health, billing, coding, reimbursement, case management, financial services management, utilization review, certified survey vendors, claims processing, credentialing, e-healthcare, health and managed care data, and HMO management.
